Christine Echtner was born and raised in Wisconsin. She studied art at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in drawing and painting. She now resides in Madison, Wisconsin with her family and their dog, Gracie.

Growing up in a family of artists, Christine has been surrounded by artistic talent since she can remember. Her maternal grandmother was especially influential in introducing her to mixed media. She taught her to see the creative possibilities in everything, and really sparked Christine’s interest in combining materials to create new meaning.

Christine’s work is about storytelling. She uses drawing, acrylic and mixed materials to develop her narratives. She starts with a basic idea and combines figures, lines, texture, color and pattern to build her characters and bring the story to life as she develops it on the canvas. “It resonates with other humans, I really think we speak to that.”

With each title, she invites the viewer to participate in and expand on the idea so as to continue the story in a way that is meaningful to them. “I develop the story, and then I title the story and I like for the viewer to take it and run.”
